Welcome to the spookiest adventure of the year! The Bovay Adventure Camp is a thrilling weekend packed with exciting outdoor activities, Halloween fun, and a premier camping experience that your Cub Scouts and their families won’t want to miss.

What to Expect

Bovay Scout Ranch provides an outstanding experience for Scouts to explore the outdoors and practice Scouting skills in a fun and festive environment. This year, we’re adding a special Halloween twist to make the camp extra memorable!

Here’s what’s in store:

BB Guns & Archery

Scouts can take aim at targets while learning essential marksmanship and safety skills. Our trained staff ensures a safe and exciting experience for all participants. This is always one of the highlights of the camp!

Costume Night Hike

Bovay’s famous Costume Night Hike takes the excitement to the next level! Scouts will dress up in their favorite costumes and trek through the dark, with flashlights in hand, as we explore the magic of the night. Look out for spooky surprises along the trail!

Campfire Program

Nothing says Scouting like a campfire program! Gather around the fire for songs, skits, and storytelling. End your day of adventure by sharing spooky stories, enjoying snacks, and bonding with fellow Scouts and families.

Adventure Loops & Outdoor Learning

While having fun, Scouts will also work toward earning several Adventure Loops. Bovay Ranch provides opportunities for learning essential Scouting skills like knot-tying, fire-building, outdoor ethics, and more!

Special Halloween Fun

The Halloween-themed camp is filled with extra activities to celebrate the season. Look forward to a Trick-or-Treat Trail around the camp, a spooky-themed Cracker Barrel, and some surprise Halloween games that will have everyone in the spirit.

What to Bring for Adventure Camp

1. Personal Gear (Each Person Should Bring)

Each camper, whether an adult or a Scout, should come prepared with the following items for their personal comfort and well-being:

Clothing:

  • Class A uniform: Worn during flag ceremonies and formal events.
  • Class B uniform: Worn during most activities.
  • Medical Forms: Need 2 copies for adventure camp.
  • Comfortable outdoor clothing: Think layers for cooler evenings and breathable materials for daytime.
  • Sturdy shoes or hiking boots: Closed-toe shoes are required for all activities.
  • Pajamas: For a comfortable night’s sleep.
  • Hat or cap: For sun protection during the day.
  • Rain gear: A poncho or rain jacket, just in case!

Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap and shampoo
  • Towel and washcloth
  • Deodorant
  • Hairbrush or comb
  • Sunscreen: Don’t forget SPF protection!
  • Bug spray/insect repellent
  • Lip balm with SPF

Camping Gear:

  • Sleeping bag: Make sure it’s appropriate for the season.
  • Pillow: Optional but recommended for comfort.
  • Personal flashlight or headlamp: Don’t forget extra batteries!
  • Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated throughout the camp.
  • Personal mess kit: Bring a plate, bowl, cup, and utensils for meals.

2. Family Gear (1 or 2 Per Family)

These items are essential for each family to bring to ensure a comfortable and fun camping experience for everyone:

  • Tent: Make sure it’s large enough for the family.
  • Ground tarp or tent footprint: To protect the bottom of your tent.
  • Sleeping pads or air mattress: For comfort while sleeping.
  • Cooler: Pack it with your family’s food, snacks, and drinks for the weekend.
  • Cooking supplies: Bring your pots, pans, spatula, and other utensils.
  • Trash bags: Essential for keeping the campsite clean.
  • First Aid Kit: Have a family-sized kit on hand for minor injuries.
  • Roasting sticks: Perfect for campfire marshmallows and hot dogs.
  • Halloween-themed decorations: Add some spooky fun to your campsite!

3. Pack Gear (Shared for the Campsite)

These are items that are brought by the group for use around the campsite. These ensure that shared spaces are well-equipped and everyone has a great experience:

  • Camp stove or portable grill: For preparing meals (if allowed at your campsite).
  • Firewood: If camp regulations allow, we’ll need wood for a shared campfire.
  • S’mores supplies: Graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate for that classic camping treat!
  • Water bucket: For safely extinguishing campfires.
  • Instant coffee: Essential for adults needing a caffeine boost!

Packing Tips:

  • Label Everything! It’s easy for gear to get mixed up at camp, so make sure your name is on everything.
  • Plan for Weather: Check the forecast and pack accordingly. It’s better to have an extra layer than to be unprepared for colder weather.
  • Snacks and Drinks: Make sure to pack enough to keep everyone energized for the weekend.

We Can’t Wait to See You at Adventure Camp!

Bringing the right gear ensures that everyone can enjoy the adventure to the fullest. Don’t forget to pack everything from the list, and if you have any questions about what to bring, reach out to your Den Leader for more information.
